Elements of wheatpasting/ street postering
Choosing targets
- Brandjacking
- What would appeal to the broader masses?
- Humiliation campaigns
- https://canvasopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Meaning-and-Concept-OTPOR.pdf
Producing posters
- Include a QR code
What surfaces near your chosen target work work?
- Square/ rectangular electrical boxes
- Bases of light and traffic poles
- Plywood fences
Supplies
- Posters
- Wheat/ cornstarch paste
- Big paint brushes and buckets
Teams
- 3 is best, 2 is fine, 1 is a pain and a missed opportunity to bond
- Roles
- Print and bring posters
- Cook the paste
- Bring the roller/ big paint brush
Security
- Designate one person to talk to the cops
- Get consensus within your group about why it’s important not to talk to cops AND what to do if cops engage with you
- Links on why we don’t talk to the cops
Timing
- After dark and after rush hour; you want there to be some people to give you cover but not too many
- If it’s freezing or close to it, the paste will freeze before you get the poster on; just don’t
Random
- It’s messy but the paste washes off in the laundry, so only wear clothes, including shoes, that you can wash with soap and water. Consider wearing an apron!
